It's not worth doing something unless you were doing something that someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing.

Overall, I felt that he was an honorable man, especially according to his own traditions. though there were moments that I saw as being dishonorable, I felt that throughout the story, he was being very honest and upright.

One of the things that stuck out to me as really being honorable was the way he continuously tried to find a honest way to be released from the plantation. Though the ones he was trying to make a deal with were constantly being dishonorable, he continued to wait and kept bargaining. Though he was desperate for his wife and himself to be free, he tried over and over to find a way to negotiate. However, I also found the fact that he had been trying to gain his freedom by trading more slaves rather dishonorable. The impression I got from that was that he valued his own safety over that of others. Though I could understand it in the sake of his wife because of her pregnancy, I didn't think it was very honorable of him to try trading in the lives of others for his own sake.

Another moment that stood out to me was when the narrator mentioned that he would not raise a hand against the people who had him captured. What he said to the man on the boat and the way he simply jumped off the boat, trying to keep his dignity even when he had been captured, was very honorable to me. He didn't try to attack anyone or loose his composure.
