To my reader,
I am currently a senior here at TCU. As my family has shuffled locations, I don't have a proper hometown, though my parents currently reside near Memphis, TN. It's a vile city, though, so I would prefer not to think of it as my hometown anyway. For highly illogical reasons, I have subjected myself to the tortures of being a ballet and modern dance major, and I hope to join a company in either Ireland or Japan after I graduate. I'm not overly fond of my first name, so I prefer to go by my last name or just "Plunk" for short.
I won't lie; I am among the many who take this course simply for the core credits. I had initially intended to take a different humanities, as I got my literary requirement from an old high school AP class, but after reviewing my options, I decided this was the most interesting class. I'm hoping to cover things in this class I couldn't in high school.
Outside of class, I actually enjoy reading. I never go more than a few days without having at least one book to be read. My favorite stories are usually fantasy, but not always. My favorite authors are Dianna Wynne Jones, Terry Pratchett, Frank McCourt, and Rowling. However, when it comes to reading for class, I rarely enjoy it. With only a few exceptions, the books our teachers assigned were painful to read, and I rarely actually finished them out of pure frustration. High school was the last time I took a literature class. My Freshman through Junior years of high school focused primarily on British writers, and my Senior year more or less focused on African American literature. I actually read Jane Eyre in high school and was forced to write three separate papers on it.
Like I said earlier, I want to read and cover information that I didn't get to in high school. There are many things our high school didn't want to cover, usually because of racy or controversial content, and I want to actually read these things.
Doodling in my notes is not a sign I am not listening. In fact, I listen better when my hand are active. It's when I am staring blankly at you that you need to worry; that usually means I am taking a mental vacation. Also, I am taking a second course during these four weeks. This shouldn't matter, but I thought I would mention it.
Contrary to the ballerina stereotype, some of my favorite music is metal. My music mix includes bands such as Dream Theater, Dir en grey, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and KMFDM. I don't limit myself, either. My music mix includes bands from a myriad of countries including France, Japan, Germany, Russia, Korea, and Italy. Metal isn't the only thing I listen to, though. I have roughly 50 gigs of music, and it may jump from Electric Eel Shock to Stravinsky to John Prine.
I have, indeed read the full syllabus and find it quiet agreeable. I am especially interested in the setup of the group assignment; using the social networking sounds interesting. I am hoping for a interesting time during this course.
Until my next assignment,
Plunk
